Untitled (Hands)
A series of photographs of the palms of mother, father and son (left to right). Both left and right hand. Presented on opposite walls. These images of the opened hands of the family are taken against a background of white silk. Referencing the practice of palmistry, or the divining of the future in the lines of the hand, the work questions how much the future of the offspring is predetermined by the parents. If events in one’s life are predestined, and this is apparent in lines of the hand, then does it follow that the genetics that govern the paths of the lines also govern the paths of the offsprings future?
