Slowfall Projects

Street

15th August 2000

Slowfall Projects is a group of six London based artists working in a variety of mediums from sculpture to photography and video. Having produced work for a variety of unconventional sites from castles to parks, Slowfall's work continues to be located in spaces where the works identity as 'art' is uncertain.

"STREET" is a one off event part of the Eden Project, performed in collaboration with 'The Wednesdays Club' in Kassel, Germany. Slowfall's observation of its urban surroundings will meet the Wednesdays Club's contrasting experience in an examination of the notion of paradise. The Slowfall event will take place in the archetypal suburban home setting, examining the ideas and aspirations of a perfect suburban life; while in an idyllic farmstead in Germany the Wednesdays Club's event will happen simultaneously.

In London 11 artists will exhibit various works including Nicholas Kaplony's ongoing series of works using the dog to re-examine aspects of urban life. Rows of kennels are arranged neatly into pretty neighborhoods, classified and grouped into the shapes of the dog breeds that would use them.

In her projections Claire Haddon employs the discarded ends of slide films which take on the nature of sunsets that never happened. John Elliott shifts and twists language and ideas in his hybrid 'Duckadils'; using humor to point the viewer towards pseudo-scientific absurdity.
